Kids In The Kitchen

KIDS IN THE KITCHEN
March 6, 2010
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Registration required by February 26, 2010
Millis Regional Health Education Center

Come meet the illustrated character Charles the Chef and have fun learning about nutrition! Kids will make an apple boat to eat, play games and take away recipe cards for great treats to be prepared at home. The goal of the Junior Leagues' Kids in the Kitchen initiative, which is supported by The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. and its member Leagues, is to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues.

Activities will be led by Roosevelt Pitt, co-creator of Charles the Chef and author of the children's book series, Food Adventures with Charles the Chef. Charles the Chef grew through Roosevelt's experience with relatives who struggled with obesity. He witnessed first-hand how unhealthy eating habits were passed on to children. His goal is to help break the cycle by sharing with children the importance of eating healthy and being active without leaving out the fun. Charles the Chef also helps parents by easing the resistance they may encounter when trying to introduce healthy foods to their kids

All kids will be able to enjoy exercise and health-related activities in the Millis Activities Center. Geissler Baker from NC Cooperative Extension Agency will also be on hand to add to the fun.

The event is open to kids in kindergarten through Grade 5. To register by email, please send the attending child's name and age to info@jlhp.org, or register by phone by calling the JLHP office at 336-889-5479.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact 2009-2010 Program Captain, Donna Braswell-Bray at dbray9@triad.rr.com or (336)841-6830.
